Maple Syrup Sauce – can be used with fried, grilled or battered chicken (or tofu) for a delicious alternative to Honey Chicken or as a dessert sauce for banana fritters, ice cream, etc.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter (or suitable df spread e.g. Nuttelex Original)
- 1 tablespoon flour (GF optional – reduce to 3 tsp if using gluten free)
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon salt (can be omitted if you want a sweet sauce for dessert, add to cut down on sweetness if using on chicken or tofu)
Method
- Melt butter or df spread in saucepan then stir in flour to make a paste
- Slowly add water and maple syrup stirring continuously until all added and sauce starts to thicken
- Add salt if using
