🟢 Five Failsafe Swede Recipes

1. Swede & Potato Mash

A soothing side dish, easy to batch.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups peeled white potato
  • 1 cup peeled swede
  • 1 tbsp Nuttelex or other DF spread
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: splash of rice milk or water for creaminess

Method:
Boil or steam until tender. Mash with Nuttelex and salt. Serve warm.


2. Roasted Swede & Chicken Traybake

Gentle, filling one-pan meal.

Ingredients:

  • 500g chicken tenderloins
  • 2 cups cubed swede
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • ¼ tsp citric acid
  • Salt to taste

Method:
Toss everything in oil, citric acid, and salt. Roast at 180°C for 40 mins until golden.


3. Swede & Leek Soup

Smooth, warming soup for sensitive days.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups swede, peeled and diced
  • 1 white potato, peeled and diced
  • ½ leek (white only), sliced
  • 3 cups water
  • Salt, citric acid (¼ tsp), and optional Nuttelex

Method:
Simmer until soft. Blend or mash for texture. Add salt and citric acid to taste.


4. Failsafe Swede Hash

Pan-fried swede and potato – great with chicken or egg (if tolerated).

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup grated swede
  • 1 cup grated potato
  • 1 tbsp sunflower oil
  • Salt to taste

Method:
Mix swede and potato. Pan-fry in batches until golden on both sides. Serve warm.


5. Swede Bake with Rice Crust (Optional)

A layered dish that can include rice, leek, and zucchini.

Ingredients:

  • Cooked rice (1 cup)
  • 1½ cups swede, thinly sliced
  • ½ cup celery, sliced
  • White part of ½ leek
  • Citric acid + salt
  • Nuttelex or safe oil

Method:
Layer in baking dish: rice base, swede and veg, seasoning. Add water if dry. Bake covered at 180°C for 35–40 mins.
