Red delicious apples are classified as medium chemical food by the RPAH Allergy Unit. They are low in amines (including histamine1) and glutamate, but contain moderate levels of salicylates. Apple skin is rich in the antioxidant quercetin, which can help regulate your immune system and reduce inflammation. 2 Some people during periods of higher salicylate sensitivity, may not tolerate the skin!
