Maple Syrup Sauce for Savoury or Sweet

Maple Syrup Sauce – can be used with fried, grilled or battered chicken (or tofu) for a delicious alternative to Honey Chicken or as a dessert sauce for banana fritters, ice cream, etc.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter (or suitable df spread e.g. Nuttelex Original)
  • 1 tablespoon flour (GF optional – reduce to 3 tsp if using gluten free)
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon salt (can be omitted if you want a sweet sauce for dessert, add to cut down on sweetness if using on chicken or tofu)

Method

  1. Melt butter or df spread in saucepan then stir in flour to make a paste
  2. Slowly add water and maple syrup stirring continuously until all added and sauce starts to thicken
  3. Add salt if using
