Caramalised Pears

Note you can substitue pear if you wish for peeled and sliced suitable apple (see note)

Serves 4

  • 4 firm packham pears (cored and peeled, halved or sliced)
  • 4 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp soft butter (or suitable df alternative e.g. Nuttelex Original (DF)
  • 100ml water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla bean paste


Place pears in a pan (they should fit snuggly, but should not be stacked on one another)


Add butter and sugar – on moderate to high heat cook pears until caramalised.


Once caramalised add water and vanilla and cover with a tight fitting lid. Turn heat down to low and cook for 10 minutes. Check occasionally and adding more water as it evaporates.


Once cooked remove the lid and simmer stirring occasionally until the liquid has reduced


Golden Delicious Apple is suitable for a strict food intolerance diet if peeled. RED DELICIOUS APPLE is suitable for a restricted food intolerance diet – it is moderate in salicylates. Most other apples are higher in salicylates.
